The series can be seen in German-speaking countries since May 15, 2017 on Sky 1 Deutschland . In October 2017, the extension of the series by a third season was announced, broadcast in Australia from August 6, 2018 to October 8, 2018. From September 3, 2018, the first two seasons ran on Free TV on One / ARD also with original English . On October 17, 2018, the series was extended for a fourth season. After a series of problems during an operation, cardiac surgeon Dr. Hugh Knight receives a life-changing sentence from the medical tribunal: He is employed as a country doctor in his former hometown Whyhope for a year. He is a hedonist who, because of his sheer talent, believes he can live outside the rules. However, his philosophy “work hard, play harder” soon becomes his undoing.
He encounters a poorly equipped provincial hospital. The head of administration Ken is chaotic and young, his attractive supervisor Penny says he is a lesbian and his office assistant Betty is a very conscientious and esoteric guy. After all, there is the young, lively assistant doctor Aoife and then there is the really open-hearted pharmaceutical representative Kimberly.
With Ken, Hugh quickly falls out of favor because he has nothing better to do than get straight down to business with the adored Kimberly. Ken is beside himself and gives Hugh an emergency service. But surgery for a gunshot wound above the heart is a great pleasure for him. He saves the patient and Aoife has allegedly taken over the operation. Everyone at home is happy to see Hugh return. Mother Meryl, father Jim and brother Matt as well as his sister-in-law Charlie, his still hot ex-girlfriend from the old days. But seeing his old friend again is not all fun: Joey likely has cancer and Hugh lets his relationships play out so he can be thoroughly examined in Sydney.
