The Jesuit Relations and Allied Documents ( The Jesuits reports and related documents is) a scientifically annotated edition with bibliographic information and a detailed index of the Jesuit reports and related documents from the years 1610 bis 1791 , originally compiled by Reuben Gold Thwaites and processed and the Burrows Brothers Company, Cleveland, in the late 19th century. The original works were written in French, Latin or Italian, depending on the author; the edition also contains the English translations. Reuben Gold Thwaites (1853-1913) was an American librarian and historical writer who was secretary of the Wisconsin Historical Society . Among other things, he edited the Original Journals of Lewis and Clark and other travelogues.

Until the Thwaites edition project, there was not a single uniform edition in which the numerous original Jesuit reports or Jesuit relations ( French: Relations des jésuites ) were translated into English. He translated and standardized and cross-referenced. Between 1896 and 1901, Thwaites and his staff compiled 73 volumes, including two volumes of indices. The edition contains a large part of the ethnographic material. Among the Jesuit authors of the time are, for example, Paul Le Jeune , Jérôme Lalemant , Jean de Brébeuf , Paul Ragueneau and Pierre-François-Xavier de Charlevoix , who report in detail on the evangelistic efforts and the difficulties of the missionaries. The edition contained many other papers, rare manuscripts and letters from the archives of the Society of Jesus spanning a period from the foundation of the order to 1791.
