The Kipps is a hill in the Moorfoot Hills . It lies on the northern edge of the range of hills. Its summit is 542 m high in the Scottish Council Area Midlothian . The hill has a 492 m high knoll called Hirendean Hill . The border between Midlothian and the neighboring Scottish Borders runs over the eastern flank of the Kipps.
About seven kilometers southwest of the Kipps is the village of Eddleston on Eddleston Water , which marks the western edge of the Moorfoot Hills. The small town of Penicuik at the foot of the Pentland Hills is around twelve kilometers to the northwest.
Surroundings
Along its western flank runs the upper reaches of the South Esk , which is dammed to the north, at the foot of Hog Hill and Huntly Cot Hill , to the Gladhouse Reservoir . Various brooks from the slopes of the Kipps flow into the South Esk. The surrounding hills include Blackhope Scar in the south, Dundreich and Hog Hill in the west and Huntly Cot Hill in the northeast.
Between Hog Hill and The Kipps are the ruins of Tower House Hirendean Castle . The Peel Tower , now protected as a ground monument , probably dates from the 16th century.
