The Last Resort (now also The Resorts ) is a British Oi! -Band from Herne Bay .

Band history

The Last Resort was founded in 1980 by Roi Pearce (bass), Charlie Duggan (guitar), Andy Benfield (drums) and singer Graham Saxby. The name was borrowed from a store for punk and skinhead culture in London. Mickey French, the owner of the store, became the group's manager. The original line-up played a few concerts and recorded a three-song demo . Among these songs was the later band hymn Violence in Our Minds . Roi Pearce eventually took over the vocals and Arthur Kitchener joined the band as a new bass player. The band took part in the three Oi! Samplers Strength Thru Oi! , Carry on Oi! and Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot! , with the latter as "The Warriors". In 1982 the debut album Skinhead Anthems was released . The concerts were often wild, and many had to be abandoned because of fights. The band was made up of avowed Millwall FC supporters, so there was often friction with hooligans from West Ham United . Shortly after the release of the debut, which was highly regarded in skinhead circles, the group broke up for the first time because of the constant brawls.

In 1987 an unlicensed split LP with Combat 84 was released under the title Death or Glory , which among other things contained the songs of the demo. After various reunion plans, the line-up for the reunion in 1988 finally consisted of Roi Pearce (vocals), Mark Edwards (guitar, ex-The Rivals), Dean Wilkinson (drums) and Mick Melville (bass). Andy Benfield and Arthur Kitchener, who initiated the reunion, did not participate in the reformed group that shortened their name to The Resort. The Reunions album was released under the title Resort in 1988 and was much more poppy and was quite unsuccessful. Michael Hiller joined the group as the second guitarist, but only stayed in the group until the final Christmas concert in 1990, which then broke up.

The Last Resort was founded in 1996. This time in the line-up Charlie Duggan (guitar), Graham Saxby (vocals), Andy Benfield (drums) and Arthur Kitchener (bass). This line-up was unsuccessful and only played a few concerts. Due to legal problems, the remaining members founded the band The Warriors .

In 2000 Roi Pearce re-founded the group with a changed line-up and in 2005 released the album Ressurection (USA and Canada: Ressurected ). The line-up includes JJ Kaos and Beef, both former members of the Anti-Nowhere League . At a concert in Germany in 2006, Roi Pearce was attacked because of his long hair. In 2009 the album You'll Never Take Us - Skinhead Anthems II was released on I Scream Records .
