The Lost Boyz was a hip hop group from Queens , New York City . The group began their musical career in 1995 and ended it after the murder of member Freaky Tah in 1999. Biggest commercial success was the single Renee .

Members

The group consisted of rappers Mr. Cheeks and Freaky Tah as well as DJ Spigg Nice and Pretty Lou. Freaky Tah was shot in the head at a birthday party for Mr. Cheeks on March 28, 1999 as he was leaving the Sheraton Hotel in Queens. He died shortly after arriving at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The three perpetrators around the shooter came from the unknown rap group Hellraisers and were subsequently charged with murder. The rivalry between the two groups had its origins in a robbery against a member of the Lost Boyz in November 1998. As a result, an acquaintance of the Lost Boyz shot the shooter's half-brother. Freaky Tah's killer mistakenly assumed that Freaky Tah was a cousin of the killer.

history

The band released their debut single Lifestyles of the rich & shameless in 1995 , which reached number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 . After the single, the group got a record deal with Uptown Records . For the soundtrack to the film Hip Hop Hood - In the Quarter is Hell Losing they contributed the song Renee , which was later also on the album Legal Drug Money , which was released in 1996 . The single, like the album, reached RIAA gold status and reached number 33 on the Billboard charts. This was the group's most successful single. The song addresses the pain caused by the death of the girlfriend in a random shooting. The singles Music Makes Me High , Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimaz & Benz and Get Up were also released from the same album . The debut album itself reached number 6 on the charts.

The second album Love, Peace & Nappiness was released in 1997 and achieved gold status. The only single from the album, Me & My Crazy World , reached number 52 on the Billboard charts. After the death of Freaky Tah, LB IV Life was the last regular release of the group on the market. It could not build on old successes. The group then broke up. In 2005 the best-of album Lost Boyz Forever was released .

Mr. Cheeks released three solo albums by John P. Kelly (2001), Back Again! (2003) and Ladies And Ghettomen (2004). With the single Lights, Camera, Action! from the first solo album he reached number 14 on the pop charts. He was heard on the Timbaland- produced single Jump off by Lil 'Kim , which reached number 16 in the USA in 2003 and number 78 in Germany.
