The Message is a song by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five from the year 1982 , the Edward Fletcher, Melle Mel was written and Bobby Robinson. It appeared in the album of the same name.
history
Often referred to as the premier hip-hop song, The Message is the first hip-hop record ever to be included in the United States National Archives of Historic Recordings . It's not the first rap song to deal with the frustration of life in the ghetto , but the move away from the faster disco rhythm to a slower, mostly lyric-based song was novel at the time. The song was released on May 13, 1982.
It reached number 51 in Rolling Stones list The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time , and rap also landed at number 5 in the VH1 list "100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop".
In the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City , the song is played on the fictional radio station Wildstyle Pirate Radio . In addition, the song of jingle in Lacoste - commercial . The music project 1,000 Days, 1,000 Songs published the title on its website in May 2017 as a protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump .
Music video
The music video is based on the lyrics of the song, the video was shot in a New York ghetto. At the beginning of the video, two band members from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five walk down a sidewalk, then you see sections of the city and taxis driving. Then a glass breaks and Grandmaster Flash and his band play the song; then you can see a tow truck. Later you can see more parts of the city: including a traffic jam, pedestrians and an old woman. In addition, many passers-by also watch a peep show . The scenes in which the band performs the song and sung excerpts are shown cut into fadeouts . After Melle Mel also took over part of the performance, a woman is on the phone and a homeless person lies around while an ambulance drives by. In an area outside the big city, the members are gradually faded in, while a train drives past. Again the city scenes and the scenes in which the band performs the song intersect. After the band chats on the other side of town, they end up being arrested by police officers.
