Melle Mel (actually: Melvin Glover , born May 15, 1961 in the Bronx , New York City ) is an American hip-hop musician.

Melle Mel became famous as a member of the group Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five . In their best-known title The Message, he raps alongside frontman Grandmaster Flash . After Flash left, he became a front-line figure himself and called himself Grandmaster Melle Mel . The group made an appearance in the film Beat Street . From 1984 he worked with other artists, for example rapping Chaka Khan's worldwide chart hit I Feel for You . In 1988 another album was released by the reunited group around Grandmaster Flash called On the Strength . In 1989 he was involved in Quincy Jones ' album Back on the Block . Melle Mel's debut album Muscles was only released in 2007, but it missed the charts.
