The Miracles

The Miracles , in the late 1960s known as Smokey Robinson & the Miracles , was an influential American soul group which in the course of her long career more than 40 achievements in the R & B - Charts had.

The singing group was founded in Detroit in the mid-1950s as "The Five Chimes". Members included William "Smokey" Robinson , Warren "Pete" Moore, Clarence "Humble" Dawson, Donald Wicker and James "Rat" Grice. A little later came Emerson "Sonny" Rogers, Bobby Rogers and Ronnie White, who replaced Wicker, Grice and Dawson. The group was now called "The Matadors". In 1956, Claudette joined Rogers after her brother Sonny was drafted into the military.

In 1958 the first single Got a Job came out under the final group name "The Miracles". In 1960 Shop Around was the Miracles' first hit, number 1 on the R&B charts and number 2 on the pop charts.

In 1959, Smokey Robinson and Claudette Rogers married. Claudette retired from the group in 1964. From 1965 the group called itself "Smokey Robinson & the Miracles". Her greatest hits of this period include I Second That Emotion (1967) and The Tears of a Clown (1970).

In 1972 Robinson left the Miracles to begin a solo career. He was replaced by the 20-year-old Billy Griffin. With Love Machine (Part 1) this line-up had a worldwide hit in 1976.

1976 Griffin's brother Don (1955-2015) also came to the Miracles. The group's last hit was in 1978 with Mean Machine . In the 1980s Bobby Rogers tried a revival with the "New Miracles", in the 1990s there was a new edition of the Miracles with Billy Griffin and Claudette Robinson. Bobby Rogers died on March 3, 2013 after a long illness at the age of 73.

On March 20, 2009, the Miracles were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . In 2012 the Miracles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . The Rolling Stone listed Smokey Robinson and the Miracles as 32nd of the 100 greatest musicians of all time .
