The 100 greatest musicians of all time
The 100 greatest players of all time ( The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time ) is a first time in 2004 and 2005 under the title The Immortals of the American US pop magazine Rolling Stone published list from their perspective 100 biggest music artists of all time. A new version was published in 2011. The list mainly contains American and some British musicians and, with the exception of Carlos Santana (# 90), only performers from the English-speaking world .
Emergence
The list was published in late 2004 and early 2005 in two issues of the magazine on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of rock and roll . The Rolling Stone this takes Elvis Presley's recording of That's All Right in July 1954 as his birth. A total of 55 people of different age groups, including music legends, critics and producers, were asked to vote for the most influential representatives of the rock and roll era. In recognition of their idols and colleagues, respected musicians such as David Bowie , Elvis Costello and Lou Reed wrote essays in the sense of laudations.
An update released in 2011 includes some changes. For example, were Jay-Z , Metallica , Pink Floyd , Queen , REM , Talking Heads and Tom Petty added to the list. In return, performers such as Etta James , Miles Davis , NWA or Roxy Music were removed.
