The Music was a Britpop band from Leeds that also used alternative rock and indie pop elements in their music style .
history
The band was founded in 1999 at Brigshaw High School by Robert Harvey (vocals, guitar), Adam Nutter (lead guitar), Stuart Coleman (bass) and Phil Jordan (drums). In 2001 the band released their song Take the Long Road and Walk It as a single, which was produced by Fierce Panda on 1000 limited-pressed records. NME and Steve Lamacq called the band the best band of the genre at the time, although they had not yet signed a record deal.
A short time later the band signed a contract with Hut Records , where they produced their first EP , You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me .
A year later followed the second EP The People , which reached 14th place in the British single charts. The album reached 4th place in the UK album charts that same year. The other two single releases, Getaway and The Truth is No Words reached the 24th and 18th place on the single charts.
In 2003 the band took part in the Glastonbury Festival .
In the fall of 2004, the band released their second album Welcome to the North along with their single Freedom Fighters , before going on tour with Incubus . In 2005 they took part in the V Festival . In 2007 the band signed a recording deal with Polydor , on which they released their third album Strength in Numbers in 2008.
In 2011 the band announced on their website that the time has come for the band members to reorient themselves musically and to end the chapter The Music. Before the band finally split up, The Music played a farewell tour that ended on August 6, 2011 at the O2 Academy in Leeds with the last concert in the band's history.
