The Organ Pipes (English for the organ pipes ) are distinctive and 1900 m high rock cliffs in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . In the Forrestal Range of the Pensacola Mountains they rise up in the Dufek Massif south of the Cairn Ridge on the northwest side of the Jaeger Table .
The cliffs were given their descriptive name by the US geologist Arthur B. Ford , head of a team of the United States Geological Survey , who worked in the Pensacola Mountains from 1978 to 1979.
