The Forrestal Range (in Argentina Cordillera Entre Ríos ) is an approximately 105 km long mountain range in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . It extends east of the Dufek Massif and the Neptune Range in the Pensacola Mountains in a north-northeast-south-southwest orientation. In the west it is flanked by the Sallee snow field , in the east by the Support Force glacier .
He was discovered and photographed during the transcontinental flight carried out by the United States Navy on January 13, 1956 as part of the first Operation Deep Freeze from McMurdo Sound to the Weddell Sea and back. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1957 after the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal , the first "supercarrier" of the United States Navy. The mapping was done by the United States Geological Survey 1967 to 1968 and using aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1964.
