chronology
- The Paul Butterfield Blues Band East-West 1966

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band is the first album by the (Paul) Butterfield Blues Band .

General

The folk-oriented Elektra label apparently signed Butterfield to benefit from the folk blues boom in the mid-1960s. The Butterfield Blues Band is also one of the first white and black blues groups in the USA. Sam Lay and Jerome Arnold came from Howlin 'Wolf's band and after the first recording of the album was discarded, Mark Naftalin joined the band and the album was re-recorded. The album was not particularly successful in the charts, but the influence that the band had on, for example, Electric Flag , the band Mike Bloomfield founded after he left Paul Butterfield's band, remained significant .
