The Propaganda Game - The North Korean Dream is a Spanish documentary about North Korea that was directed by Álvaro Longoria and released in 2015 . The film tries to present North Korea and its inhabitants without prejudice and at the same time to objectively and critically question the current situation.

The film premiered in 2015 at the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián .

content of the film

Álvaro Longoria himself visited North Korea and was allowed to film during his stay. This was made possible by Alejandro Cao de Benós, a Spaniard who emigrated to North Korea to work for this government . During the entire stay and the shoot, Álvaro Longoria was accompanied by members of the government. The main components are interviews with ordinary citizens and members of the government of North Korea. Central themes of the documentation were the everyday life of the residents as well as the handling of information and propaganda in and about North Korea. Both North Korean and Western propaganda about North Korea are mentioned. In between, interviews with North Korea experts and other excerpts from the western world about North Korea were shown. The main aspect is therefore the differing perception of the West and the North Koreans' own perception of this country. Noteworthy is the early indoctrination and the resulting conviction of North Koreans and the demonization of America. Conversely, some of the West's lies about North Korea are exposed.

Álvaro Longoria is repeatedly shown the technological advances and wealth in the country, which hardly suggest any difference to everyday life in the western world. It is always questionable where this wealth comes from and to what extent it is merely staged, since questions aimed at that point are avoided and Álvaro Longoria can not decide for himself what he is allowed to see thanks to the guided tour . The beautiful places in North Korea are not always questioned and criticized. The attempt is made to show a picture of the country without prejudice, which allows the viewer to judge himself.

The history of the country, the philosophy of the state ( Juche ideology ), the discourse on human rights , the militarization of the country and the reasons for this situation are also discussed .
