The Rakes were a British indie rock band from Whitechapel (East London ), which was formed on April 4, 2002 and disbanded in October 2009. The reason for this was "complete exhaustion".

The band announced the separation to the public on their website. “It was very important to The Rakes and the band prided themselves on always giving 100 percent at every gig. If we can't give that anymore, then we won't play anymore - that was our rule from day one. After much deliberation, we have come to the conclusion that we are no longer able to give 100 percent. We are sorry for all of the people who wanted to see us on the UK and US tour. It's strange to announce the breakup ourselves, but we want to thank our beloved fans, all of the great people we've worked with, our management and our record label. […] Thank you for the great time. It was a great party. But now we have to sleep too! "
