production

The album was recorded and produced by Chris Zane in an East Berlin studio. The decision was made by frontman and singer Alan Donohoe, who justified it by saying that the London music scene was so boring and that the band members were longing for a little more inspiring surroundings. The stay in Germany also gave rise to the idea for the title of the album, Klang , and East German culture can also be found in the songs. It cannot be denied that they were significantly influenced by their surroundings during the recordings.

Martina Kellner from laut.de described sound as "[...] a disc that brings out the rougher, more brittle sides of the band and thus reminds me much more of the debut Capture / Release ". Dry and noisy guitars were now in the foreground again and "Donahue's characteristic scratchy voice still steers the action significantly". It seems "beautifully unpolished, but in places also a bit too fast-paced and thoughtless", there are no real catchy tunes on the album, since most of the songs offer a rather "fleeting entertainment".

In the review by intro.de , Christian Steinbrink describes Klang as an album that reflects the rake's penchant for the "[...] dry harmony of the strokes [and] traces of the Britpop glam of the futureheads or libertines ". It does not have a chance to land a hit with any title, but "the record works perfectly as a history-conscious, not to be ingratiated and playfully rough arranged facet within the British pop landscape [...]."
