The Ride is the sixth studio album by the Portuguese - Canadian pop - singer Nelly Furtado . It was released on March 31, 2017 on her own label Nelstar Entertainment. It is their first release since the album The Spirit Indestructible from 2012. The first single on the album is the song Pipe Dreams , which was released on November 15, 2016 on Soundcloud .

The first song written for the album was Phoenix . She wrote the song with Mark Taylor, who wrote the song Broken Strings (2008) with her back then . In August 2014 Furtado met John Congleton with whom she first wrote the song Flatline . The two wrote most of the songs on the album.
Cover
The album cover was released in December 2016. It shows Furtado with a bouquet of flowers in hand. A wooden plate is carried behind her. At the edge there are green areas and the title of the album.
