The Rides is an American supergroup consisting of Stephen Stills , Barry Goldberg and Kenny Wayne Shepherd .

Band history

Kenny Wayne Shepherd's father was a concert organizer and organized concerts with Stephen Stills in Shreveport , Shepherd's hometown. Stills and Kenny Wayne Shepherd had known each other for a long time, but it was not until 2007 that they performed together for the first time as part of Super Bowl XLI at a party of the victorious Indianapolis Colts . Stills and Barry Goldberg knew each other for a longer period of time, including both of them being involved in the recording of the album Super Session in 1968. Stills, Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield had recorded the songs for it in two sessions within two days and Goldberg was at the electronic pianoone of the guest musicians. Stills manager came up with the idea of ​​doing a similar album recording with Stills, Goldberg and Kenny Wayne Shepard. The three musicians met in 2013 and gave each other a week for the recording sessions. As a band they called themselves The Rides and the album was called Can't Get Enough . In addition to six cover songs, they also recorded four of their own songs. The producer was Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads . The album was released on August 27, 2013 and entered the charts worldwide, including number 15 in Germany and number 42 in the US album charts . It was number 1 in the US Bluescharts and was nominated for a Blues Music Award for best album of the year. Immediately after the release, the rides also went on a major US tour.

During the recording of the session album, the three musicians had already decided to record a regular studio album together, this time with more self-written songs. But it took another two and a half years before the project was implemented. In May 2016, the second Rides album Pierced Arrow was released . It was not as successful as its predecessor, but again achieved its best chart position in Germany with position 35. In the US blue charts, however, they again took first place.
