The Ritual Aura is an Australian technical and progressive death metal band from Perth , which was founded in 2011 under the name Obscenium .
history
The band was founded in 2011 under the name Obscenium. After several line-up changes, she was seen live for the first time in 2013. After Adam Giangiordano joined the group as a drummer, Riley "Witches" Panozzo, who previously held the post, switched to singing. Panozzo left the group in 2014 and was replaced by Jamie Kay.
In 2015 the name was changed to The Ritual Aura. The debut album Laniakea was released in the same year . A month before the release, the band had already started writing the second album, which was released in 2016 under the name Tæther .
style
Stephan Rajchl from metal1.info assigned Laniakea to progressive and technical death metal, whereby the music combines "[s] playful virtuosity and uncompromising brutality". He noticed the short playing time of only around 25 minutes, but this is made up for by high quality songs. The playing of the instruments is fast and precise, so that one can get the impression that machines are at work. The speed of the songs is almost consistently high, the melody is unusual, you can call it "futuristic" because it is reinforced by "spacey" synthesizers. The song structures are unusual, if one can speak of song structure at all, since neither choruses nor verses can be made out. It is also noticeable that four of the nine songs are completely instrumental, while the others contain high screams and deep growls . Occasionally there is also "weird" clear vocals and vocoder effects in the style of Cynic . Johnny Jackal from metal-temple.com noted in his review of Tæther that the band used groups like Omnium Gatherum , Meshuggah and Gojira . He described the music as Technical Death Metal, although The Ritual Aura does not move in the same musical field as the aforementioned bands despite the influences. Lyrically, the album deals with Japanese legends and the country's mythology. The singing is not too aggressive and mostly understandable.
