The Romantics was founded in Detroit in 1977 by Mike Skill, Wally Palmar, Richie Cole and Jimmy Marinos. The band played in front of 80,000 people when they first appeared in the opening act for Peter Frampton and Steve Miller .
Band history
In 1978 the first single, Little White Lies, was released . After the rock critic Greg Shaw became aware of them, a single ( Tell It to Carrie ) was released in the same year .
The debut album The Romantics was released in 1980. It came surprisingly to number 61 in the US album charts, which the second album National Breakout (also 1980) did not even begin to achieve.
The 1981 production Strictly Personal featured guitarist Coz Canler instead of Skill. In 1983, Skill came back and replaced Cole. In the same year, the Romantics were able to record their greatest successes not only in the USA but also in Europe with the album In Heat and the accompanying singles Talking in Your Sleep and One in a Million (1984). The album featured traditional Little Richard- style rock 'n' roll .
Despite the great success, Marinos left the band, replaced by David Petratos. He first played on Rhythm Romance (1985). The album was nowhere near as successful as its predecessor. Test of Time was released as a single .
In 1990 ex- blondie drummer Clem Burke joined the Romantics - as a replacement for Petratos, who had dropped out. Burke made his debut on the EP Made in Detroit .
In 1996 the band toured again with Marinos as drummer, but in 1997 he was replaced by Burke again. Various live albums were created during this time. In 2003 another studio album came out: 61/49 .
The glam metal band Poison recorded a cover version of the song What I Like About You in 2006 , which appeared on the 2007 album Poison'd! has been published.
