The Saxonz are a German breakdance group that formed from three regional groups in Dresden in 2013 . The Saxonz are one of the most successful groups in the German breakdance scene today .

history

In order to be more successful nationally and internationally, three regional groups from Chemnitz , Dresden and Leipzig came together in January 2013 . One year after their founding, they established themselves at the top of the German breakdance scene and became unofficial German champions with two consecutive victories at the Battle of the Year in 2014 and 2015. In 2019 they were able to win the Battle of the Year. The Saxonz are the 2016 art award winners from the Hanna Johannes Arras Foundation and have won other awards in France and the Netherlands.

The Saxonz have made a name for themselves outside of the breakdance scene through cooperation with various institutions such as the Festspielhaus Hellerau , the Semperoper and the Saxon State Chancellery . The image film Life is a dance as part of the So geht sächsisch campaign has had millions of hits since 2015 and received several awards, including the one for the 2016 web video in the sports category.

The Saxonz are the initiators of their own events such as the “Double D-Town Battle”, the “XXL training session” and the “Dance Off” for the urban Saxon dance scene. The formation toured among others Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Russia, South Korea, Ukraine and the USA.

The Saxonz consist of about 13 dancers. The founders Alexander Miller (Kelox), Felix Roßberg (Rossi) and Philip Lehmann (Lehmi) are still part of the group. Miller (* 1989) studies choreography at the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden and is the artistic director. Roßberg (* 1988, physiotherapist from Deutschenbora ) and Lehmann (* 1989) are the athletic directors. Promoting young talent is very important to The Saxonz. Every week Roßberg and Lehmann give beginners' courses for kids and young people in the district center “Emmers” in Dresden- Pieschen .

In 2019, The Saxonz founded an association with the aim of promoting young talent, being able to receive funding and helping to ensure that breakdancing becomes an Olympic discipline and The Saxonz can participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics . Another goal is to found their own dance center.
