The Servant ( English the servant ) was a British rock band .

Band history

At the age of 18 , Dan Black, originally from Leeds , later singer and mastermind of the band, moved to London, where he studied at the Chelsea School of Art and played in various bands. There he met Matt Fisher and Trevor Sharpe, with whom he founded The Servant in the late 1990s . The band was named after Joseph Losey 's film of the same name from 1968. In 2000 the band's first EP Mathematics was released. The following year, guitarist Chris Burrows joined the band with the EP With the Invisible .

With their self-titled debut album in 2004 they were particularly successful in Italy and France. In 2008 the band split. Dan Black started his solo career successfully.

style

Black was influenced by groups like the Beatles , The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan . He himself says: “When I was little, I was Prince and Jane's Addiction oriented, then at Bowie , Lou Reed , The Velvets , in my adolescence. And tons of hip hop. I have never been satisfied just with white guitarists… " . These influences can then also be found in the sound of the band, whereby they have a high recognition value thanks to the unmistakable, nasal sound of Black's voice .
