The Spire (English for The tip is) a 150 m high rock needle on the Fallières coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises at the northwest end of the Blackwall Mountains on the south bank of the Neny Fjord .
The first sighting probably goes back to participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . Participants in the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) and the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey made the first ascent on January 17, 1948. William Robertson Latady (1918–1979), aerial photographer with the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition, gave the rock needle its descriptive name.
