The Stamps Quartet

The Stamps Quartet is the oldest professional gospel quartet in United States history that is still active. The male vocal quartet is considered the most widely recognized and excellent gospel group. It received several awards for "Best Gospel Group" and "Best Gospel Album". From 1971 to 1977 the Stamps were an integral part of the more than a thousand concerts that Elvis Presley gave during this time.

The original quartet was formed in 1924 by VO Stamps of Upshur County , Texas . After completing his military service, his brother Frank Stamps also joined the quartet.

Their song Give The World A Smile , released in 1934, was the first gospel song to sell over a million copies and became the group's signature song.

In 1962, JD Sumner and James Blackwood from the Blackwood Brothers Quartet acquired the Stamps music publisher, including the associated quartet. In 1965 Sumner switched to the Stamps Quartet as a bass singer and took over its management. He later renamed the quartet the JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet .

In addition to Elvis Presley, the Stamps Quartet has performed with many other artists, including Tammy Wynette , Loretta Lynn , Willie Nelson , Jerry Lee Lewis , Conway Twitty , Jerry Reed , Ronnie McDowell , BJ Thomas , Neil Sedaka , and others.

From 1995/96 to 2007/08 they accompanied the Elvis - The Concert tours and between 2014 and 2017 they appeared as a musical accompaniment group in Elvis - The Musical .

In August 2003, Ed Enoch acquired the trademark license for the historic Stamps Quartet. Enoch has been part of the band since 1969. He started out as a baritone and later became the group's lead vocalist and road manager .
