Ronnie McDowell
Ronnie McDowell (born March 26, 1950 in Fountain Head , Tennessee ) is an American country musician who became famous overnight with his self-written song The King Is Gone , a tribute to the recently deceased Elvis Presley . The song has sold more than five million times to date.
Life
The musician, who then lived in Portland, Tennessee, and now lives in Hendersonville , Tennessee, quickly proved that he was not going to be a “one-shot”. He immediately followed up with his second hit single, I Love You, I Love You, I Love You , which also made it to third place on the pop and country charts.
Between 1979 and 1986, McDowell was under contract with Epic Records and produced other hits that made it into the top ten. Two of them - Older Women and You're Gonna Ruin My Bad Reputation - even stormed number one on the country charts.
In 1986 he moved to Curb Records , his record company to this day. There he immediately had another top ten hit with the single It's Only Make Believe , which he recorded in a duet with Conway Twitty, who had his breakthrough with this song in 1958.
Two years later he wrote a song called You're Never Too Old to Rock'n'Roll , which he recorded in a duet with Jerry Lee Lewis .
Ronnie McDowell is still in the music business, touring with his band The Rhythm Kings . He also occasionally performs with Elvis' original musicians such as Scotty Moore , DJ Fontana and the Jordanaires to honor the king of rock and roll.
Starting with the Dick Clark- produced biography Elvis (1979) by John Carpenter , in which Kurt Russell played the King of Rock'n'Roll , McDowell also sang numerous Elvis songs for various films and series on the subject of Elvis Presley. These include u. a. also the television films Elvis and the Beauty Queen (1981) with Don Johnson and Mein Leben mit Elvis ( Elvis And Me , 1988) with Dale Midkiff and the television series Elvis (1990) with Michael St. Gerard in the title role. Due to his vocal similarity, McDowell acted as an acoustic double of Presley, so to speak .
