The stands

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stands are a former alternative band from the English city of Liverpool .

history

The Stands were founded by Howie Payne after his band The Big Kids split up ( Sean Payne and Russ Pritchard from The Big Kids joined The Zutons ). After several musicians were tested, the line-up was determined in early 2002. In addition to singer and guitarist Howie Payne, guitarist Luke Thomson , Dean Ravera on bass and drummer Steve Pilgrim belonged to the band.

After Noel Gallagher from Oasis had campaigned for the band together with his brother Fan, they were able to sign a record deal with the British Echo label . In February 2004 their debut album All Years Leaving was released. When it came to recording the follow-up album, Pilgrim was replaced by Graeme Robinson . Shortly after the album, which was to get the title Horse Fabulous , was recorded, Thompson left the band and Paul Molloy , formerly with The Skylarks , was his successor. Some critics were enthusiastic, others saw the band's sound as just a 1960s infusion.

The band got into trouble with the record company and the contract was terminated. Shortly thereafter, on November 24, 2005, Howie Payne announced the breakup of the band.
