The Symplegades are 100 to 150 m high cliffs in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . They rise up on both sides of the Tschajka Passage , a narrow, yet navigable strait between Spert Island and Trinity Island .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2012 after the Symplegaden (two rocky islands) from Greek mythology .
