The Trammps were an American soul band.

Career

The Trammps came from Philadelphia and were one of the first bands in the disco genre. They had their first major success in the USA in 1972 with Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart . The first real disco song they released was Love Epidemic (1973). Best known is probably her Disco Inferno (1976), which appeared on the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever in 1977 and climbed to number 11 on the Billboard charts in May 1978 .

Other hits were u. a. Hold Back the Night (1975) and That's Where the Happy People Go (1975). In 1977 the Trammps released the song The Night the Lights Went Out , as a reminder of the power failure in New York City on July 13, 1977. On September 19, 2005 Disco Inferno was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame . The band's lead singer James T. Ellis died on March 8, 2012 at the age of 74 in Rock Hill , South Carolina .
