The Vanguard Group is a US financial services company based in Malvern, Pennsylvania in the greater Delaware Valley . With over $ 5 trillion in assets under management , the company is currently the largest bond fund and the second largest asset manager in the world after BlackRock . Vanguard was founded in 1975 by John C. Bogle . The company's success is based on the sale of index funds to investors, which are offered at lower prices than actively managed funds. Vanguard currently has more than 14,000 employees. There are branches around the globe, in all of the world's major financial centers .
