The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History is a compilation by the Scottish band The Vaselines . It appeared two years after the band split up.

History of origin

The Vaselines remained unknown to a wider public during their existence (1986 to 1990). After the dissolution, that should change through the influence of nirvana . The Vaselines songs had a strong influence on Kurt Cobain and his bandmates. Nirvana covered several songs by the Scottish formation, including Son of a Gun and Molly's Lips on Incesticide and Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam as Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on MTV Unplugged in New York .

In 1992 two albums with old Vaselines material were released, first in Great Britain All the Stuff and More ... on Avalanche Records and later that year the more successful The Way of the Vaselines - A Complete History . The album was released on Sub Pop , the record company that also discovered the bands Soundgarden and Nirvana.

This album contained all of the tracks commercially released by The Vaselines, including those covered by Nirvana (in that order): the three songs from the first single Son of a Gun , A and B sides from the second single Dying for It (plus the two songs that only appeared on the 12 "version) and all the songs on the Vaseline's only album, Dum-Dum .

The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History was also published in the UK in 1994.
