The X Factor: The Band is a spin-off of the UK talent show The X Factor , which firstairedon ITV in December 2019. The format was officially announced on November 4th as a replacement for the previously planned All Stars Special Edition. It is a compressed version of the successful X Factor format, in the course of which solo singers take part in a casting where theyare evaluatedby Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger and fight for a place in a new girl and boy group . In the finals, the two new groups face each other and compete for a record deal with Cowell's record company.

After in-person auditions on the premises of Cowell's record company, Leona Lewis , the winner of the third season of the X Factor , was introduced as the third judge. In addition, so-called “Industry Experts” supported the jury. The Band aired over four episodes from December 9-15, and the live final took place at the Resorts World Arena . The girl group Real Like You won against the boy band Unwritten Rule with the winning song Be Like Them , which was written by the candidate Kellimarie Wilson personally, and 55.1% of the audience vote.

background

The show was first reported in early 2019 that it would appear as The X Factor: All Stars because the regular broadcast would be suspended due to falling audience numbers. Just a few weeks after the former X-Factor winners Little Mix announced their own casting show under the name Little Mix: The Search on BBC One, it was announced in November 2019 that the planned AIl Stars format would be replaced by a spin-off in which I'm looking for a new boy or girl group: The X Factor: The Band .

The auditions took place at Syco Music's headquarters in London and the show was produced in three episodes and a live finale, which aired on December 9, 11, 13 and 15, 2019. The live final took place at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. After being asked about this decision, presenter Dermot O'Leary said : “It's always nice to get out and take the show around the country. We did the final in Manchester a few years ago, which went really well. It's always nice to get out and see other places and you get a full sense of the whole country being involved as well. I'm looking forward to it! "

Jury and moderation

Dermot O'Leary also moderated this spin-off. The inventor Cowell was supported on the jury desk by Nicole Scherzinger , who has appeared as a juror in several seasons of the regular version of the show and also in the recently broadcast Celebrity Format, and Leona Lewis , the winner of the third season of The X Factor . The jury was also accompanied by producers Fred Ball and Naughty Boy as well as singer-songwriters Ella Eyre and Carla Williams as “industry experts” .
