The Rooms are a British band with a median age of 78 (2007). The name was derived from the trademark of a walking aid made by Zimmer , a popular UK walking aid .

background

The background of the band is a documentary by the BBC, in which the situation of older people in our society is pointed out, especially the loneliness in old age and the disdain.

Their first single was released on CD in Great Britain on May 28, 2007, before that there was already a download version on iTunes. The version posted on YouTube on April 2nd has so far been viewed 5,188,687 times, 7,842 times commented, 3,392 times voted as favorites and 160,05 ratings have been given (as of January 11, 2010, 8:15 pm). In the first week of its release, the single reached number 26 on the UK charts.

The song - a cover version of the song My Generation by the group The Who - was recorded with top international producer Mike Hedges ( U2 , The Cure , Dido etc.) at Abbey Road Studios , the video was shot by Grammy winner Geoff Wonfor . It visualizes the development of the production.

The best-known member of the room is Peter Oakley , one of the stars of the online portal YouTube under the name geriatric1927 . The solo singer was Alf Carretta (born March 31, 1917, † June 30, 2010).

Award

In 2008 the pop group received the blue hearts award , which was documented on the pavement of the Berlin Abbey Bridge by means of a blue heart-shaped tile.
