Buster Martin (actually: Pierre Jean Martin ; born September 1, 1906 or 1913 in France ; † April 13, 2011 ) was considered the oldest employee in the United Kingdom .

Live and act

According to his own information, Martin was born in France in 1906, but was soon sent to an orphanage in Cornwall , where he was nicknamed "Buster". When he was ten, he was put out of the door because he "grew too fast and ate too much". At the age of 14 he married his wife Iriana in France, who died in the 1950s, and had 17 children with her. However, none of this information has so far been confirmed by an official certificate.

Buster Martin gained fame when the plumbing company Pimlico Plumbers, for whom Martin worked as a car washer until his death in 2011, announced that he was the oldest worker in the UK. In 2007 he made headlines when he successfully defended himself against a physical attack by three young criminals. In the same year, Buster Martin appeared as the oldest member of the band The Zimmer , which drew attention to the problems of old people with a recording of The Who classic My Generation .

Martin took part in the London Marathon 2008 and reached the finish in a good ten hours. That would make him the oldest person to ever finish a marathon . However, the Guinness Book of Records received information that Martin had given the National Health Service his date of birth September 1, 1913, and did not recognize this age record for the time being. The oldest marathon finisher to date is the Greek Dimitrion Yordanidis, who in 1976 at the age of 98 in Athens took 7 hours and 33 minutes to cover the 42.195 km.

In an interview, Martin claimed to have started tobacco smoking at the age of seven . He was also passionate about drinking beer until his death .
