My Generation is the first album by the British rock group The Who . The LP was released in December 1965. In the USA , the album was released with a different cover and a slightly different title sequence under the title The Who Sings My Generation . The album was named after the single My Generation , which was released in November 1965 and reached number 2 in the British charts.
The album was produced by Shel Talmy and published by the Brunswick record label. The recording and pressing took place in mono. Nicky Hopkins can be heard on the album as a guest musician on the piano.
My Generation clearly shows the musical roots of the early Who. The album is strongly influenced by rhythm and blues and contains cover versions of popular R&B pieces on the one hand, and the influences in the compositions of Who guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend on the other .
