Kenney Jones (born September 16, 1948 in Stepney , London ) is a British drummer .

Life

Jones took up drumming at the age of 13 and became a studio musician two years later. In the mid-1960s he was a member of the band "The Pioneers", from which the mod band Small Faces later emerged. When singer Steve Marriott left the band after four album releases , the group was renamed around new singer Rod Stewart and guitarist Ron Wood in Faces . After Stewart began a solo career and Wood switched to the Rolling Stones , Jones played for a few years as a studio musician, including for Joan Armatrading and Andy Fairweather-Low .

After the death of The Who drummer Keith Moon , Pete Townshend chose Jones for a successor. After the two studio albums “Face Dances” and “It's Hard” and the live double LP “Who's Last”, the band split up in 1984. At the one-off concerts for Live Aid and at the “British Phonographic Industry Awards Ceremony” in the Royal Albert Hall in 1988, Jones appeared for the last time with “The Who”. In the later "Reunions" of The Who Jones was initially replaced by Simon Phillips (on the 89 Tommy tour) and from 1996 by Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey .

Jones was a brief member of the band The Law with frontman Paul Rodgers in the early 1990s . He previously worked on Pete Townshend's solo albums as a studio musician. In the early 2000s he first founded the "Kenney Jones Band", which released the single "It's All About the Children" in 2002 , in which Ronnie Wood and Paul Young participated.
