Faces (sometimes called The Faces ) was a British rock band that emerged from Small Faces in 1969 after Steve Marriott left the group to form Humble Pie . The new band members Ron Wood ( guitar , formerly The Birds - not to be confused with The Byrds ! -, The Creation and Jeff Beck Group ) and Rod Stewart (vocals) (formerly The Steampacket , Jeff Beck Group) joined the remaining Small Faces Ronnie Lane ( bass ), Ian McLagan ( keyboard ) and Kenney Jones ( drums ).
history
Through constant touring, especially in the USA and Canada , the group quickly gained a reputation as a good live band.
The alcohol consumption and the escapades of the faces often continued on stage. For example, in 1975 in Lakeland (Florida) , the group dismantled the furnishings of their hotel rooms because they were annoyed that the hotel bar had closed at 2 a.m. (they left a check with the amount of the damages when they left).
The most successful songs of the Faces were Stay with Me , Had Me a Real Good Time and Cindy Incidentally . On Rod Stewart's solo LPs, the faces appeared on hits like It's All over Now , Maggie May , (I Know) I'm Losing You and others. a. With.
When Rod Stewart's solo success surpassed that of the Faces, the group became their singer's backing band. Ronnie Lane got out in the spring of 1973, shortly after the release of the last studio LP Ooh La La , after internal arguments. He was replaced by the Japanese bassist Tetsu Yamauchi.
After the last tour, the band broke up in 1975.
The individual band members went different ways: Wood went to the Rolling Stones ; Lane founded Slim Chance and had a modest solo career; Jones moved to The Who after the death of Keith Moon ; Ian "Mac" McLagan became a studio musician. Rod Stewart is now a successful solo artist.
Reunion and end
For 2009 Ron Wood, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan and Rod Stewart had planned a worldwide reunion tour. However, due to Stewart's scheduling difficulties, these plans failed. In early 2010, Ronnie Wood announced that he would perform again as The Faces with a new line-up. The tour should take place in 2011. On May 25, 2010 it was announced that Mick Hucknall , previously the front man of Simply Red , would be the new singer of the re-established Faces and that Glen Matlock would take over bass. The announced tour did not take place at first, but the band played at some festivals in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, Faces were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed at the ceremony, but Rod Stewart had to cancel as a singer at short notice due to illness.
In 2014, keyboardist Ian McLagan died of a stroke in Austin, Texas.
On September 5, 2015, Rod Stewart, Ron Wood and Kenney Jones performed as Faces in Horsham . It was the first concert with Stewart in 22 years, but also the last appearance of the band.
