It's Hard is the last studio album by the British rock band The Who , released before their official temporary split in 1983. After Face Dances , it was the second album with drummer Kenney Jones , who had taken his place after Keith Moon's death. It was published in 1982 via Polydor. In England the album reached number 11 on the album charts. In the US, it came to # 8 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart.

Opinions about this album differ greatly. While it got a 5-star rating in Rolling Stone Magazine and was named the most vital album since Who's Next , many fans consider it unmotivated. Even singer Roger Daltrey said in 1994: “I hated it. I still hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it! ”However, the disapproval of the fans was not unfounded. The rumor circulated that the album had only been recorded because the band owed the US record company one more album under the contract.

In retrospect, It's Hard is probably the band 's least significant album. The Eminence Front sung by Townshend is the only track on the album that is still played at Who concerts today and is one of the best songs in the band's history among fans. In the United States, the song was released in December 1982 with the track One At A Time on the B-side. In Great Britain it was decided to decouple Athena as a single.

In 1997 It's Hard was digitally remastered and re-released on CD with four bonus tracks. The bonus songs are live recordings from December 16-17, 1982 (Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Canada). Keyboard player on this 1982 tour was Tim Gorman, who also took part in some studio recordings for the album.
