The kids are alright

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kids Are Alright is a song written in 1965 by guitarist and composer Pete Townshend of the British rock group The Who .

The Kids Are Alright was released as the seventh song on the album My Generation and as a single in Germany and the USA. The Kids Are Alright and the theme song My Generation became a kind of anthem for the flourishing mod scene in the British capital . In 1979 Jeff Stein made a film about The Who, also called The Kids Are Alright . Legend has it that Pete Townshend heard a song by Henry Purcell and he copied Purcell's piano melody onto guitar and the second verse of Henry Purcell's song as the chorus.

The song was covered by groups like Goldfinger , Green Day and Pearl Jam . The rock group The Offspring released the song The Kids Aren't Alright in 1998 , which is an allusion to the Who piece with its socially critical lyrics.

Nowadays, when they play this piece at concerts, The Who add extra long, often improvised solo melodies, as Roger Daltrey admitted in an interview in early 2006.
