Thea Brünner

Marie-Theresia Brünner (* October 3, 1927 - June 2, 2016 ) was a German consumer advocate .

Life

Thea Brünner began her work in consumer protection in 1962 at Neue Hauswirtschaft , which later became the consumer center . In 1972 she became the managing director of the Berlin Consumer Center, whose structure she significantly shaped. During her thirty-year term in office, she accompanied pioneering legislative initiatives on consumer protection and the development of the consumer movement in the Federal Republic of Germany.

From 1966 to 1983 she was a member of the Board of Trustees and from 1984 to 1989 the Board of Directors of Stiftung Warentest . From 1976 she took part in the expert panel in SFB 2 . In 1979 she was appointed to the consumer advisory council of the Federal Minister of Economics.

In 1997 she gave up the management and became chairman of the board of directors of the Berlin consumer center. With her resignation for reasons of age, she was appointed honorary chairman of the Berlin consumer association in 2007. Her successor Jürgen Keßler praised her as "an institution in the consumer movement".

For her services to the consumer movement, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin in 1988 and the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1994.

Her grave is on the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
