Theater 11 (2011)

The Theater 11 Zurich is a venue in Zurich- Oerlikon in Switzerland. It stands next to the Zurich Exhibition Center and the Hallenstadion and was opened on December 3, 2006 with the rock musical We Will Rock You . It serves a non- subsidized guest performance and is mostly played with musicals .

The building was designed by the architects EM2N from Zurich and Berlin for an architecture competition in which the office won first prize. It is about the conversion of a theater hall that was built between 1962 and 65 and is now in need of renovation. To enable continued profitable operation, 700 additional seats and foyers were necessary. Only part of the stage area remained, the auditorium had to be rebuilt. The construction costs amounted to CHF 27.2 million . The theater takes its name from the Zurich district 11 , in which it is located. The original theater building with the name Stadthof 11 was a conventional hall building with a peep-box stage designed by the architect Karl Egender and was intended to be used for guest performances. After a competition in December 2006, after a year and a half of redesign, the renewed building was opened on the site of the former Stadthof 11 . The hall can hold 1,500 visitors, and the theater also has an area for aperitifs , which is designed for 300 guests. In 2017, Disney's Mary Poppins was performed as the Swiss premiere .
