The Theater Forum in Schwechat

history

The building was built as a cinema by the Schwechat entrepreneur Franz Kolba (1921–1991) and opened in March 1963 as an elite cinema . The cinema was closed in April 1985 due to decreasing attendance. In 1988 the vacant building in Ehrenbrunngasse was bought by the municipality of Schwechat and extensively converted into an event location and reopened on November 30, 1991 as "Forum Schwechat" by the newly founded "Forum Schwechat Betriebsgesellschaft mbH". Up to the year 2000 guest performances were shown mainly from the areas of cabaret and cabaret , but occasionally cinema and theater were also organized. On August 14, 2010, the theater was badly damaged by prolonged heavy rainfall and had to be extensively renovated.

On July 1, 2016, a new double tour will be installed in the Theater Forum Schwechat. Manuela Seidl is the artistic director and Daniel Truttmann is the commercial director.

Goal setting and schedule

From 2001 to 2016, under the directorship of Johannes C. Hoflehner, the stage with a focus on spoken theater was run under the more specific name Theater Forum Schwechat . At least two in-house productions with mostly contemporary pieces or world premieres in spring and a classic production in autumn are on the program every year. A children's and youth theater program as well as thematic focal events (“European Theater Week”, “Lower Theaters”, “Slovak Dramatists' Meeting”, etc.) complete the offer.

The theater works internationally on a project basis by carrying out co-productions with national and international partners (e.g. in 2006 the production “The collected works by Samuel Beckett ...” with MASKéNADA , a free group of performing and visual artists, from Luxembourg ) . The “Schwechat Satirefestival”, which has become a fixed point in the region's calendar of events since 2002, takes this international claim into account and shows guest performances by national and international satirists, cabaret artists and theaters. The theater season of the Theater Forum Schwechat lasts from mid-September to mid-June.

The Theater Forum Schwechat has significantly expanded the range of programs since 2001 and raised its standards.

The Theater Forum Schwechat offers its audience subscriptions in various categories. Cabaret subscriptions, theater subscriptions, premier subscriptions are enjoying a growing number of viewers, and the offers are constantly expanding and supplemented by individual performances.
