The Aachen Theater School for Acting • Directing • Musical is a supplementary school for theater and film. It is based in the rooms of the Barockfabrik , a cultural center owned by the city of Aachen, Löhergraben 22.

history

As chairman of the board of the non-profit association Aachener Kultur und Theaterinitiative (AkuT), Tom Witkowski supervised various theater groups. As a result, some of the members wanted professional acting lessons. Thereupon Witkowski founded and directed the Academy for Independent Theater Aachen ( Akademie ff ) in 1996 . AKuT also took over the sponsorship and all necessary formalities for state recognition as a vocational school. The then director of the Grenzlandtheater Manfred Langner also belonged to the team of lecturers . The academy's rooms were in the Welthaus, An der Schanz 1. In 1999, a new friends' association was founded and the lawyer Susanne Fischer was hired as administrative director of the academy , which moved into new rooms at Theaterstrasse 7 as the Aachen Theater School. Andrei Mekke and Olga Romanovskaja took over the artistic direction. The sponsorship passed from AKuT to the new sponsorship association. From 2015 to 2017 the theater school was located in the rooms of the former community center of the parish St. Corpus Christi in Schleswigstrasse.

After Manfred Langner took over the management of the Stuttgart theater , the team of lecturers was restructured and the Kurt Sieder Prize winner Ingeborg Meyer became the new artistic director of the Theaterschule Aachen e. V. used. At your side is a qualified team of lecturers, which is supported by renowned guest lecturers such as Nadine Kiesewalter , Karl Walter Sprungala or Michael Witte .

Full time education

As a recognized vocational school, the Aachen Theater School is eligible for BAföG . As part of a three-year full-time training course, she trains students to become actors. In addition, it offers the opportunity to obtain a degree as a director or musical performer.

The training is mainly based on the "Stanislawski System" by Konstantin Sergejewitsch Stanislawski , the method acting by Lee Strasberg and the acting technique by Keith Johnstone as well as other recognized teaching methods, including those of Bertolt Brecht . In addition, there is a cooperation with the film school ART ON THE RUN in Berlin .

Final examination with stage maturity

If the final examination is passed, the participants acquire the stage maturity. This entitles you to audition at the artist agency of the Central Foreign and Specialized Agency (ZAV) in Bonn. Through its agencies in Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, Stuttgart and Leipzig, graduates can be placed as professional actors for auditions in theater and film by the Federal Employment Agency in the fields of drama, music theater, orchestra, film and television, entertainment and advertising become. In addition, the budding actors benefit from the cooperation between the ZAV artist agency and the European Employment Services (EURES), a merger of the EU employment services and the close cooperation with other European artist agencies and foreign universities.

Requirement for training

The formal requirements for training at the Theaterschule Aachen are the minimum age of 16 years, proof of a school certificate as well as a health certificate and a phoniatric report from an ear, nose and throat doctor. The final admission is finally achieved through a successful entrance examination consisting of creative games and performances as well as monologues and songs.

At a time when actors are expected to have a variable deployment concept, great importance is attached to creativity, independence and personal responsibility in the selection and training.
