Thenighttimeproject is a Swedish metal and rock band from Avesta that was founded in 2010.

history

The band was founded in 2010 by guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and former Katatonia member Fredrik "North" Norrman. Inspired by iamamiwhoami , Norrmann decided to spell the band name without spaces. The line-up was supplemented by the singer Tobias Netzell and the drummer Nicklas Hjertton. The self-titled debut album was released in January 2016. The following year the single Anti Meridian was released and Fredrik's brother Mattias Norrman joined as bassist. Netzell and Hjertton left the cast later that year. In 2018 the drummer Jonas Sköld and the singer Alexander Backlund joined as replacements. This was followed by work on the next album and rehearsals for performances. The album was released by Debemur Morti in 2019 under the name Pale Season . Then the Draconian singer Heike Langhans can be heard in the song Signals in the Sky .

style

Dave "That Metal Guy" Campbell from metal-temple.com noted in his review of the debut album similarities to Katatonia and Porcupine Tree , whereby the songs often focus on creating a special atmosphere. He also heard influences from Doom Metal and Ambient , whereby the songs are mostly very emotional. Lisa Gratzke from Metal Hammer wrote in her review of Pale Season that although the band is strongly reminiscent of Katatonia, they still sound independent. The songs usually have a dark and melancholy character. Occasionally plain singing is used in them. In some songs the "listener is carried through doomy-rock sound valleys". Rock Hard's Patrick Schmidt also reviewed the album. The group recalled TesseracT several times, both atmospherically and vocally . “Beautiful, melancholy melodies” would meet “fragile arrangements ” with “deeply sad guitars”. The album is not only suitable for fans of Katatonia and TesseracT, but also for Anathema fans . One issue later, Schmidt wrote that the band is on "loose-flaky-melancholic Progrock terrain". In an interview with him, Fredrik Norrman stated that when he founded the band he had decided to play a kind of mixture of ambient rock and pop , which was suitable for radio and without hard, distorted guitars and therefore did not fit Katatonia's stylistic direction. In the same interview, Alexander Backlund named A Perfect Circle , Porcupine Tree, Paradise Lost , Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative as his main influences, with their creative period from 2001 to 2004 being the most important for him.
