Theo Schwonzen

Theodor "Theo" Schwonzen (born October 22, 1920 , † September 20, 2014 ) was a German physician.

Life

In 1953 he became chief physician of the internal department and radiology of the Eifelklinik St. Brigida , a hospital sponsored by the Cellitinnen zur St. Elisabeth (until 1997). As a 33-year-old doctor, he was the youngest chief physician in a North Rhine-Westphalian hospital. From 1977 until his retirement in 1987 he was also the medical director of the hospital. He was significantly involved in the development of the Simmerath Hospital and the medical care of the Monschau district. He taught for many years at the nursing school of the Eifelklinik. He was chairman of the Aachen-Land district office of the North Rhine Medical Association and was particularly committed to continuing medical education.

Schwonzen was a founding member of the Catholic Medical Association in Germany (KÄAD) . From 1992 to 2005 he was a member of the board and was significantly involved in the organization of the association. Schwonzen was President of Medicus Mundi International , an international health cooperation organization, for ten years . He was a member of the German Society for Internal Medicine .

In 1971 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in the Konstanz Minster on May 15, 1971 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . He was an officer of the order. He was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land .

He was married to Ena geb. Wulf (1927-2012).
