Theodor Berger (politician)

Theodor Berger (born August 3, 1875 in Schwandt , municipality of Waldburg in ( Upper Austria ); † October 18, 1956 in Neumarkt im Hausruckkreis ) was an Upper Austrian politician, teacher and folklorist .

Life

After completing school in Kremsmünster , Berger attended the teacher training college in Linz, which he completed in 1896 with the teaching qualification test. In his teaching activities he worked as headmaster in Kimpling, then until 1935 as primary school director in Kallham . 1914–1934 he was a member of the district school council Grieskirchen . As a politician he was close to the Heimwehr movement and the Landbund and was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag from 1919 to 1925 , and then a Federal Councilor until 1931 (non-attached).

In addition to his political and teaching activities, he cultivated folklore and local history research, some of which he also published. He wrote 80 essays, mainly on sayings, proverbs, Christmas carols and nativity plays. In 1932 he was an honorary citizen of Neumarkt and Kallham. The extensive estate was handed over to the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives in 1956 at the request of a will.
