Friedrich Heinrich Theodor Bohlmann (born June 23, 1865 in Osterwieck , † March 18, 1931 in Memphis ) was a German pianist , composer and music teacher .

Life

The son of the well-known lawyer Dr. Like his brother Georg, Otto Bohlmann attended the Royal High School in Leipzig, which he left in 1885 with the school leaving certificate. In addition, the musically gifted boy received piano lessons at the Leipzig Conservatory with Bruno Zwintscher. At the request of his father, Bohlmann first took up a scientific degree at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , but at the same time trained as a concert pianist with Karl Klindworth at his renowned music institute . He was also a student of Eugen d'Albert and Moritz Moszkowski .

He made his debut on March 3, 1890 in Berlin. Extensive concert tours followed, including to the United States , where in September 1890 he accepted a professorship for piano at the Conservatory in Cincinnati .

From September 1, 1905 to August 31, 1908, he was a teacher at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. He then returned to Cincinnati. In addition to his teaching activities, he continued to give successful concerts and also appeared as a composer.

In 1922 he founded the Bohlmann School of Music in Memphis.
