Theodor Gill

Theodor Heinrich Gill (born November 11, 1928 in Paramaribo , Surinam ; † November 3, 2019 in Herrnhut ) was a bishop of the Evangelical Brothers Union .

Career

After studying Protestant theology in Berlin, Göttingen and Basel, the Vicariate followed in Herrnhut . It was here that Gill was ordained as a deacon of the Brethren in 1955. As a community helper (pastor) Gill was mainly active in youth work. In 1958 he became a lecturer at the catechetical seminary in Gnadau ; later he headed the Gnadauer institutes . In 1973, Gill moved to Herrnhut with his family. In 1980 he was consecrated as Bishop of the Evangelical Free Church.

From 1971 to 1990 he was a member of the church leadership of the Evangelical Brothers Unity in what was then the GDR and was a member of its directorate until he retired. After the Peaceful Revolution , Gill founded a working group to come to terms with the GDR past.

Theodor Gill was married and had seven children. One of his sons is former Secretary of State David Gill .
