Theodor Giou de Briou (* 1649 in France ; † May 20, 1720 in Berlin ) was a major general in Brandenburg and the first commander of the Gensdarmes .

In 1677 he joined the Kurbrandenburg Life Guard (later: Infantry Regiment No. 1 ). There he became an ensign of the Guards on foot in 1680. But on March 12, 1685 he became Rittmeister of the Trabantengarde (from 1692 Garde du Corps ). There he became major on January 23, 1697 and lieutenant colonel on February 5, 1702. He was then part of the Brandenburg auxiliary troops during the War of the Spanish Succession in Holland and took part in the Battle of Malplaquet . On December 2, 1706 he became colonel of the cavalry and adjutant general to the king. On January 21, 1709 he was promoted to brigadier and on March 4, 1713 to major in the Guard, which earned him an additional 70 thalers. He also took part in the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/1716 . On May 30, 1718 he was finally appointed major general and on July 15, 1718 he was appointed first commander of regiment No. 10 (Gensdarmes). He died unmarried on May 20, 1720 in Berlin.
