Theodor Goldstücker

Theodor Goldstücker (born January 18, 1821 in Königsberg , † March 6, 1872 in London ) was a German Sanskrit researcher .

Life

Theodor Goldstücker devoted himself to philological , oriental and philosophical studies at the Albertus University of Königsberg from 1836 , and at the University of Bonn between 1838 and 1840 . He later went to Paris , where he researched the rich Sanskrit manuscripts there. In 1846 Goldstücker returned to Germany and lived in Berlin for a long time .

In 1850 Goldstücker went to London, where he became professor of Sanskrit at the University of London in 1851 through the mediation of Horace Hayman Wilson . Wilson gave him a revision of his Sanskrit dictionary at the same time . Since 1868 he was a foreign member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
