Theodor Grütter (born August 16, 1824 in Walsrode , † December 10, 1901 in Bassum ; full name Conrad Theodor Grütter ) was a German draftsman and professional photographer .

Life

Theodor Grütter was born in Walsrode in 1824. As a draftsman and photographer he worked in Verden, among others . There he ran the “Th. Grütter Photographische Anstalt”, which was temporarily located in Lahusenstrasse 12 “near the cathedral”, as evidenced by the reverse of a cardboard carrier for photographs made by Julius Knoevenagel’s Hanover-based lithographic institute .

On May 23, 1853, Grütter married Anna Maria Frisch in Mainz (born March 30, 1825 at the cathedral parish in Mainz, † April 16, 1892 in Bassum), known as "Nannchen", daughter of the Mainz upholsterer Mathias Frisch and his wife Susanna nee. Hedderich.

In Walsrode, Grütter had his studio from around the middle of the 1860s to around 1875 at Haus Langestr. 36 . Some of his most famous pictures date from this period. They show the “memorial erected on the church square to commemorate the visit of the royal family and Crown Prince Ernst August's coming of age on September 21, 1863.” The photos taken in 1865 were a gift from Grütter to the Crown Prince and came from his estate in the 21st Century back to Walsrode, by the local archivist Thorsten Neubert-Preine they were published in the historical calendar Walsrode for the year 2013.

Most recently Grütter worked in Bassum, where he died almost a decade after the death of his wife.
